21-22 October 2025 | Conway Hall, London
There is a growing market of analytics providers offering products ranging from raw climate data to tailored climate information services for the re/insurance and finance sectors. Providers aim to support the re/insurance and financial sectors in complying with reporting requirements and in improving the resilience and efficiency of portfolios and investments.
However, the rapid market growth raises important questions about the quality and trustworthiness of what is being offered. Should this market be regulated, and if yes, how? Would the re/insurance sector benefit from data, information and service quality guidelines, and what would these look like, and what is needed for them to be adopted?
European markets are already beginning to address these issues. The European Commission has tasked the European standardisation organisations, CEN and CENELEC, with developing standards for the provision of climate information (“climate services”).
Climateurope2, a Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action led by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, has been nominated as liaison for the standardisation working groups and is working to engage with the climate services community to promote the effective and equitable standardization of climate services, where appropriate.
To support this standardisation call, Climateurope2, UCL, and the UK Centre for Greening Finance and Investment will host a re/insurance and finance sector-focussed event on 21 and 22 October 2025, bringing together key players in the climate services market, to address central issues around quality, trustworthiness and regulation of climate services for re/insurance and finance.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Learn about the European standardisation efforts currently supported by Climateurope2.
- Contribute sectoral insights into ongoing European regulation and standard setting of climate services as well as quality assurance and certification.
- Co-design input for a report to regulators highlighting sector-specific regulatory needs.
Support the mapping of climate information needs across the re/insurance and adjacent sectors.
